Sam Gaffney.Sage Midwifery, ABN: 71 588 489 093

       Profile  &           Philosophy

I have extensive midwifery experience, working in the NHS and as a private midwife in England, prior to making the move to Australia.
I have worked in a variety of settings providing antenatal care, labour and birth. As well as postnatal care in the home, hospitals, in small community clinics and in a standalone birth centre.

As a student nurse, I spent 3 months with a Community Midwife in the seaside town of Scarborough in North Yorkshire, England. This was my inspiration to become a midwife. I loved the relationship that built between the community midwife and women in her care.

As a student midwife, I attended my first home birth and was in awe with how the story unfolded at home, such a normal, special and privileged time in a woman’s life, I was honoured to be a part of her journey. I’m passionate about continuing to provide a gold standard of care, in a calm quiet & enabling atmosphere.

Becoming a Private Practice Midwife in Australia is a culmination of a passion to work in partnership with women & their families. My aim is to empower & support you in your journey through pregnancy, childbirth & becoming Parents,  to help guide you to step into your power as a Woman and a Mother.

Please note we do not have professional indemity insurance (PII) for labour & birth. Midwives have a regulatory requirement to have PII but are unable to obtain the product due to a world wide shortage of  PII for midwives.

Therefore Midwives in private practice have been provided with an exemption for homebirth until June 30th 2025.

The Midwives working within the Collective have  PII for antenatal and postnatal care with MIGA.

We respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Owners of country throughout Victoria and pay respect to the ongoing living cultures of First Peoples.
